Accra, July 13, GNA – The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has deployed new security screening equipment at passenger checkpoints in Terminals 2 and 3 of the Accra International Airport (AIA) to strengthen aviation security and enhance passenger convenience.

A statement issued by the GACL said the upgraded technology would make security checks more efficient while maintaining high aviation security standards.

It said under the new system, passengers would no longer be required to remove laptops and other large electronic devices from cabin baggage during screening.

Passengers could also keep their shoes and belts on unless additional checks were required based on security profiling.

The statement added that Liquids, Aerosols and Gels (LAGs) could remain in cabin baggage during screening, although existing regulations prohibiting quantities exceeding 100 millilitres per container remained in force.

The new system also features an Automatic Tray Return System designed to speed up the return of trays to passengers for repacking screened items, thereby reducing waiting times.

GACL said migration to the new screening system would be undertaken progressively and in phases alongside existing procedures to ensure a smooth transition.

The Company appealed to passengers and stakeholders to cooperate with security personnel as operations with the new equipment commence.

The statement said the investment formed part of efforts to strengthen aviation security while enhancing convenience and efficiency for passengers using Ghana’s premier international airport.
