Ho, Aug. 24, GNA – The Gender and Reproductive Advocacy Youth Network (GRAY Network) has donated sanitary pads and waste bins to OLA Senior High School, to boost the school’s sanitation and menstrual hygiene campaigns.
GRAY Network is a youth-led organisation dedicated to empowering young people to actively participate in decision-making processes.
Mr Godsway Mensah, the Programmes Manager for GRAY Network told Ghana News Agency that the gesture formed part of the organisation’s “Safe, Clean, and Dignity Initiative.”
He said the project aimed to promote menstrual hygiene management, ensure proper disposal of sanitary products, and maintain overall cleanliness among female students.
Mr Mensah said the waste bins would enable the students to hygienically discard their used sanitary pads, noting that the initiative intended to guarantee a safe, clean, and healthy learning environment for all girls.
He added that the network’s core mission was to foster a spirit of volunteerism and community service among the youth, driving positive change within their school environments.
Mr Mensah explained that the organisation also equipped young people with vital communication and leadership skills to prepare them as effective contributors to national development.
Ms Setsofia Valerie Abla Sika, the President of the GRAY Network, told GNA that the donation was prompted by an assessment that identified pressing sanitation challenges within the school.
She stated that the intervention falls under the network’s broader Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) project.
Ms Sika urged members of the network to sustain their philanthropic spirit, noting that impactful projects would help expand the organisation’s membership and reach.
Madam Honorine Klu, the Assistant Headmistress of the School, in charge of Domestic Affairs, commended the organisation for their timely intervention.
She said the donation would significantly help students maintain proper menstrual hygiene and assured the network that the school would properly maintain the donated items.
She expressed great joy that OLA, being a female institution, was selected for the initiative and appealed to other corporate bodies and NGOs for further support.
