Accra, July 13, GNA – The Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) has supported a community clean-up exercise in La Dade-Kotopon to promote environmental sanitation and help reduce flooding.

The exercise formed part of the President’s two-day nationwide clean-up campaign and included a donation of sanitation equipment to the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDKMA).

Management and staff of MIIF, led by Mrs Justina Nelson, Chief Executive Officer, joined the Assembly for the more than three-hour exercise on Saturday despite early morning rainfall.

The exercise started near the Embassy of Togo and continued through the enclave of the Embassy of the United States of America, where participants desilted choked drains, pruned overgrown vegetation and removed waste along major streets.

MIIF donated wheelbarrows, machetes, rakes, shovels and brooms to the Assembly to support its sanitation activities.

Mrs Nelson said the initiative was in line with MIIF’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) policy and reflected the Fund’s commitment to sustainable community development.

“This initiative is imperative. It is in line with the Reset agenda of President John Mahama for us to come together to clean Ghana for our collective good. We partnered with LaDKMA to make this exercise effective, and I would like to thank my team for the support and for this collaboration.

“While we do our part, we all need to also help and change our attitude so that we can get to where we expect to be,”  she said.

Mrs Nelson encouraged citizens and residents to play active roles in maintaining a clean environment and pledged that MIIF would make the exercise a regular activity as part of its contribution to national development.

She commended the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly for the collaboration and expressed confidence that the partnership would continue to improve sanitation in the municipality.

Mr Isaac Okumtey Anim, the Municipal Environmental Health Officer for LaDKMA, commended MIIF staff for participating in the exercise and donating sanitation equipment.

“The Assembly requires more of such tools and equipment to effectively carry out its sanitation activities, and we will ensure that these items are put to good use,” he said, noting their importance to the Assembly’s efforts to keeping the municipality clean.
