Current Structure

GNA’s governance structure comprises an eight-member Board of Directors to provide policy and strategic direction, a General Manager, as Chief Executive, responsible for the implementation of policies of the Board, and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Agency. The General Manager leads a management team comprising the Heads of Editorial, Administration, IT/Engineering, Business Development and Accounts Departments.

The GNA has Regional Managers who coordinate the gathering and transmission of news from the regions and districts to the Headquarters.


Board of Directors

Nana Sifa Twum, PhDBoard Chairman 

Nana Sifa Twum, PhD, is a seasoned Ghanaian communications and media professional with a strong background in journalism, media relations, and public communication. He holds advanced academic qualifications in journalism, publishing and communication from universities in the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

A media scholar and communications professional with extensive experience in news gathering, broadcast journalism, and media analysis, he has worked across print, radio, television, and digital platforms.

Dr Twum is recognised for his robust advocacy of media professionalism, ethical journalism, and effective public communication. He integrates practical newsroom expertise with academic insight to promote journalism’s contribution to democratic development.

Over his career spanning more than three decades, he has served as Managing Editor of The Ghanaian Radio & TV Times, a publication that strengthens professionalism in the broadcast media through analysis and critique of radio and television content.  

Beyond reporting, Nana Sifa Twum is known as a media and communications consultant, contributing commentaries and insights on news and current affairs. He has also contributed to media capacity-building commentary and advocated for improved media professionalism in Ghana and abroad.

Overall, he is recognised as a development-focused communicator and journalist whose work bridges media practice, strategic communication, and efforts to strengthen journalism’s role in national development.


Mr. Albert Kofi OwusuGeneral Manager & Member 

Mr. Albert Kofi Owusu is an accomplished Ghanaian journalist and the General Manager of the Ghana News Agency (GNA). With extensive experience spanning several decades in the media industry, he has built a distinguished career as a reporter, broadcaster, news editor, and programmes manager. His leadership has been instrumental in the establishment and growth of several radio and television stations across Ghana, as well as in the management of prominent online news platforms.

Mr. Owusu received professional training and attachment with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in London, which later conferred on him the prestigious Best BBC Journalism Award for West Africa.

He currently serves on the Executive Council of the Atlantic Federation of African Press Agencies (FAAPA), where he contributes to the advancement and integration of national news agencies across the African continent. His expertise has also been sought at various international media conferences and professional forums.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, a Degree in Public Administration, and a Diploma in Journalism.

Under his leadership, the Ghana News Agency has regained national recognition, including winning the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Best News Website of the Year award in 2020. He has successfully led the Agency’s transformation into a modern digital news operation, overseeing the comprehensive revamping and retooling of its core systems and workflows.

This transformation has enhanced operational efficiency, improved content delivery, and repositioned the Agency within the contemporary media landscape.

Furthermore, Mr. Owusu has facilitated the expansion of GNA’s international partnerships, strengthening cooperation with allied media institutions and press agencies across Africa and beyond.

Mr. Owusu remains a staunch advocate for media freedom and professional ethics and has spearheaded several initiatives aimed at strengthening journalism and safeguarding press freedom in Ghana.


Mr. Emmanuel Ahene-AffohMember  

Emmanuel Ahene-Affoh is an economist by training with experience in financial services development and institutional building in Ghana. He has played a key role in the establishment and operational setup of four major financial institutions, including UBA Bank, GTBank, Bank Sahel Sahara, and Bayport Financial Services, contributing to their foundational systems and long-term growth.

He was also part of the core team at then New World Invesments Ltd that built the now well-established Teachers’ Fund, a flagship pension and welfare institution serving teachers across Ghana, underscoring his commitment to sustainable social and economic development.

Beyond finance, Emmanuel Ahene-Affoh is an ardent farmer with a strong passion for both plant and animal farming, reflecting his interest in agribusiness and food systems as drivers of national development. He currently owns and operates a DVLA-licensed vehicle inspection company, authorized to conduct roadworthiness certification in Ghana.

A father of three, he brings together technical expertise, entrepreneurial leadership, and a deep appreciation for impact-driven enterprise.


The Very Rev. Helena Amma Serwaa Opoku-SarkodieMember  

The Very Rev. Helena Amma Serwaa Opoku-Sarkodie is an ordained minister of the Methodist Church Ghana, commissioned into the ministry in 1990. She has served in various churches, including those in North America.

From August 2007 to July 2020, she held the position of Head of the Religious Broadcasts Department at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation. In this role, she designed innovative program concepts, hosted broadcasts, and contributed to the development and implementation of Religious Broadcasts Guidelines for GBC. 

Additionally, through collaboration with the Religious Broadcasts Advisory Council of GBC, chaired by Apostle Dr. Alfred Koduah, former General Secretary of the Church of Pentecost, The Very Rev. Opoku-Sarkodie worked with the National Media Commission to draft comprehensive guidelines for the broader media fraternity in Ghana.

From the period 2011 to 2017, The Very Rev. Opoku-Sarkodie was the Board Chairman of the Ghana Publishing Company. 

She has also served in diverse capacities within both church and state institutions. Her passion and calling remain rooted in pastoral ministry.


Mr. Alexander Mawusi BuadiMember 

Alexander Mawusi Buadi is a retired Regional Director of Education, Volta and a past President of Ghana National Association of Teachers. He holds a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from University of Cape Coast and BA degree in Economics and Sociology.

He is the Board Chairman for TFFS Ltd; prior to this he was the Chairman of the Audit committee of the same institution. He was also one time a council member of the University of Education, Winneba.

His working experience in public service spans more than thirty-five years which made him attend local and international conferences.


Mrs. Ivy Tuffuor HoetuMember

Mrs. Ivy Tuffuor Hoetu is a telecommunications policy and regulatory professional with considerable experience in digital connectivity, internet development and ICT training.

She currently handles telecommunications services, infrastructure licensing and internet governance at the National Communications Authority.

She was the Authority’s substantive Engineering Officer in the Eastern region responsible for monitoring radio spectrum bands, resolving frequency interference, inspection of communications infrastructure, maintaining frequency database and enforcing authorization conditions.

Mrs. Hoetu previously served as Managed Networks Supervisor at Broadband Home Limited where she supervised network connectivity to banks, hotels and government organisations.

She was a CISCO Networking Academy Instructor and has been an international resource person for Stockholm Internet Forum; the International Centre for Theoretical Physics; and an active participant and contributor to the International Telecommunications Union’s Global Symposium for Regulators.

Mrs. Hoetu was honoured in 2020 for her special contribution to Women in STEM in Ghana and currently serving her second term on the Board of the Ghana News Agency as the ICT Specialist.

She received an Ontario College Certification in Data Analytics from St. Clair College of Applied Arts & Technology in Canada, MSc. in Telecommunications Management from the Ghana Communication Technology University and a BSc. in Computer Science and Psychology from the University of Ghana.


Mr. Kwasi Adu-Mante, EsqMember  

Mr. Adu-Mante is a lawyer by profession. At his firm he leads the development and implementation of a strategy focused on the delivery of the best-in-class legal support and consistent excellence in client service. 

Kwasi is a graduate of the University of Ghana, Legon from where he studied for both his Bachelor of Arts degree and Law degree (B.A Hons, LLB Hons). He also has a master’s degree in Law from University of London. Kwasi attained his Qualifying Certificate in Professional Law from the Ghana School of Law and was admitted to practice in Ghana as Barrister-at-Law and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana in 2007. 

Mr. Adu-Mante has over 19 years’ experience in commercial practice and litigation and has advised and represented many banks in Ghana on their operations.
