Sunyani (Bono), Aug. 24, GNA – The ‘Ogyeamansan Free Vacation Classes,’ instituted by Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, the Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area, has attracted 1,500 learners in the Sunyani Municipality, who are presently participating in the various learning sessions.
The Paramount Chief, who is also the President of the Sunyani Traditional Council (STC), instituted the annual long vacation classes for students and pupils in the area.
The classes currently underway at the St Patrick Primary and Junior High School at Sunyani, had 40 teachers recruited by the Chief, to handle the various sessions annually from the first week of August between 0800 hours and 1300 hours until the resumption of the academic year.
These came to light when Nana Addae Kuntuma IV, the Nifahene (sub-chief) of the STC and the Supervisor of the Ogyeamansan Free Vacation Classes visited and assessed the progress of the vacation classes.
He lauded the comportment of the learners, explaining that the visit was to enable him to identify and address emerging challenges confronting the exercise, and commended the teachers for the dedication.
Mr Atta Akoto Senior, the officer in-charge of Communication at the STC emphasised Odeefour Ogyeamansan Korkor II’s dedication to improve quality education in the traditional area, saying that plans were underway to provide free meals for the beneficiaries too.
Dr Mrs Vida Korang, the Secretary to the Ogyeamansan Education Trust Fund, lauded the enrolment figures and advised their teachers to redouble their efforts to improve academic performance of the learners.
