Aflao (V/R), June 9, GNA — The Ketu Divisional Command of the Ghana Police Service has cautioned organisers of the planned “Justice for Christopher Ahordo” picketing to exercise restraint and ensure a peaceful demonstration.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Mr Alfred Kudah, Ketu Divisional Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency that the Police had engaged the organisers ahead of the exercise and advised them to reconsider the picketing.
He said despite the engagement, the organisers insisted on proceeding with the demonstration, stressing their constitutional right to assemble and express their grievances.
ACP Kudah noted that the Police would provide the necessary security to ensure the exercise remained peaceful and orderly, with additional personnel expected from the Regional Command to support operations.
He said the organisers had outlined their schedule, indicating that the picketing would commence on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, from the morning until 1200 hours, and continue Thursday until 1300 hours, with subsequent days following a similar pattern until their concerns were addressed.
The Divisional Commander stated that suggestions by the Police for alternative approaches to express their concerns were declined by the organisers.
He therefore urged the organisers to take full responsibility for the conduct of participants and ensure that no damage was caused to life and property.
“Organisers are expected to ensure that their followers remain within the law. Should the situation escalate beyond control, the Police will act to prevent any harm,” he said.
The planned picketing follows a two-week ultimatum issued on May 18, 2026, by the family of the late Christopher Ahordo, a mobile money vendor who was murdered in Aflao in 2025.
The family has expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of updates on investigations, including the reported escape of the prime suspect and the handling of other suspects.
According to the organisers, the demonstration is intended to demand justice, transparency and accountability, as well as draw attention to concerns about insecurity in the Aflao area and the wider Ketu South Municipality.
They have assured that the exercise would be peaceful, with participants expected to carry placards and banners advocating justice, public safety and adherence to the rule of law.
