Accra, June 9, GNA – Ghana’s home jersey for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been ranked the best among all 48 participating nations in a global assessment by The Athletic, the sports publication owned by The New York Times.
The ranking, published on June 8, placed the Black Stars’ home shirt at the summit of the list ahead of Brazil, England, Germany and Morocco, which completed the top five positions.
According to the publication, Ghana’s jersey stood out for its unique design and incorporation of elements of the country’s cultural identity, making it one of the most distinctive shirts among the competing nations.
The shirt features patterns inspired by traditional Ghanaian artistry and symbolism, reflecting the country’s rich heritage while maintaining a modern appearance.
Several African nations also featured prominently on the list, with Morocco placing fifth, Côte d’Ivoire 14th, South Africa 19th, DR Congo 23rd and Senegal 32nd.
The ranking highlights the growing importance of football kits as symbols of national identity and culture, with countries increasingly using their designs to showcase their heritage on the global stage.
While the assessment was based on aesthetics rather than football performance, Ghana’s top ranking offers another positive spotlight for the Black Stars as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars would open their 2026 World Cup campaign against Panama in Toronto on June 17, 2026.
