Water supplier gets six months sentence over two offences

Akropong (Ash) Aug 21, GNA – A 24-year-old water supplier has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by the Asante Akropong District Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District for committing two offences.  

Stephen Kokora, the accused, pleaded not guilty to the charges of causing harm and threat of death, but was convicted after full trial of the case.  

He was fined 240 penalty units, equivalent to GHS 2,280.00, or serve an additional three-month jail term in default of the fine.  

Police Sergeant Anita Adjei prosecuting, told the court presided, over by Mr. Emmanuel Wiafe Adu. that both the complainant Akwasi Fosu, and the convict, were relatives, residing in the same house at Akropong.  

They have unresolved family issues and misunderstandings.  

On July 16, 2025, at about 0930 hours, the complainant and his wife were in the house and the convict appeared in an angry mood, attacked the complainant with a kitchen knife and stabbed his right shoulder.  

The complainant’s wife intervened and separated them but the convict stood from a distance and threatened to kill the complainant by shouting him with a gun.  

“If you don’t kill me, I will kill you in this house,” the accused was reported to have said.  

The complainant, who was by then bleeding profusely, rushed to the Abuakwa Police to make a report.  

The accused was later arrested.  

In his caution statement, the accused stabbing the complainant with the knife but denied threatening to kill him.  

After police further investigations, he was charged with the offences and brought before the court.
