Kumasi, Oct. 20, GNA – Lay Chairpersons of the Methodist church have been charged to be steadfast in their faith in times of troubles and organise programmes that will ensure the qualitative and quantitative growth of the church.

Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, the former Presiding Bishop of the Methodist church, who made the call, said in times of conflicts, wars and troubles such as those plaguing and shaking the world today, Lay Chairpersons should be seen to be like Habakuk in the Bible, and work to leave a legacy.

Most Rev. Prof. Asante was addressing five new Lay Chairpersons who were inducted into office by the Methodist church in Kumasi.

The ceremony was on the theme “Called to Minister in the Period of Uncertainty.”

The newly inducted Lay Chairpersons were Professor Emmanuel Dartey, Effiduase Diocese, Dr Enoch Baah, Kumasi Diocese and Sister Rose Achiaa Peprah, Kumasi North Diocese.

The rest were Sister Georgina Valentina Asante, Sunyani Diocese and Sister Mariama Della Dadson, Tamale Diocese.

Most Rev. Prof. Asante advised them to avoid the temptation of conducting themselves as ordained ministers.

They should rather assist the ordained Ministers in the discharge of their duties to the service of God.

He said the position of a Lay Chairperson came with a lot of responsibilities, such that one may be tempted to see themselves as ordained ministers.

Most Rev. Prof. Asante encouraged the newly inducted Lay Chairpersons to uphold the constitution, fulfil their responsibilities to assist the clergy by being creative and innovative to impact both the church and society.
