Kumasi, June 29, GNA – Mr. Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, the Mayor of Kumasi, has called for stronger collaboration among religious leaders, traditional authorities and political actors, describing their collective influence as indispensable to Ghana’s development agenda.
He said religion, chieftaincy and politics remained the three most influential institutions in Ghanaian society, shaping the values, attitudes and decisions of millions of citizens, and must therefore, work in harmony to promote good governance and sustainable national development.
Addressing the Chieftaincy Royals Conference organised by the Suame Area of The Church of Pentecost (COP) at the Tetelestai Worship Centre in Kumasi, Mr Boadi observed that, despite the enormous influence wielded by the three institutions, they had largely operated independently, limiting their collective impact on national transformation.
The Mayor delivered the address on behalf of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene.
He stressed that such collaboration must be built on the principles of truthfulness, trust, accountability, integrity and good stewardship.
According to him, political leaders formulate and implement policies, chiefs preserve the country’s cultural values and serve as custodians of the land, while religious leaders shape the moral and spiritual character of the people.
“When these institutions pursue a common vision based on honesty and service, they become a powerful force for peace, social cohesion and national development,” he said.
Mr. Boadi urged leaders in all sectors to place the national interest above personal and partisan considerations and to provide leadership that inspired confidence among the citizenry.
He also encouraged traditional rulers who profess the Christian faith to continue serving as role models in their communities by promoting peace, justice, discipline and ethical leadership.
The conference, held on the theme: “The Royal Unleashed to Transform the Palace through the Gospel and the Power of the Holy Spirit,” drew traditional authorities, political leaders and members of The Church of Pentecost from across the Ashanti Region.
Scriptural references for the conference were taken from Acts 8:4-8, Ecclesiastes 8:4 and Isaiah 49:23.
Other speakers, including Apostle Michael Agyen Brefo, Suame Area Head of The Church of Pentecost; Nana Nkansa Boadu Ayeboafo, Agric-Nzemahene; Nana Dwamena Akenten II, Offinsohene; and Elder Nana Kwadwo Gyasi, Chairman of the Suame Area Royals Committee of the Church, underscored the need for Christianity and chieftaincy to work together in promoting peace, unity and community development.
They urged Christian traditional rulers to use their positions to uphold integrity, champion social transformation and positively influence the moral direction of society.
The conference featured colourful cultural displays, with performances of gospel music, kete and fontomfrom drumming symbolising the harmonious coexistence of Christian faith and Ghanaian cultural heritage.
Traditional leaders, together with members of the congregation, joined in singing and dancing, highlighting the church’s recognition of culture as a vehicle for worship and community engagement.
