Sekondi (W/R), July 11, GNA – Some residents at Kweikuma and Adiembra, in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region, have expressed concern about the improper sanitary conditions in the region.

They said proper sanitation conditions must be a daily habit of citizens rather than waiting to be told to keep their environment clean.

Mr Ishmael Armah, a resident at Kweikuma explained that a healthy environment promoted a healthy living, therefore the need for every citizen to make it a priority to keep their surroundings clean to avoid diseases.

He urged citizens to learn a lesson from the June 29th flood disaster in Accra and other parts of country and changed their behaviour towards nature.

Mr Kofi Duncan, a teacher, also stressed the need to train children about the best practices of taking care of the environment in order to positively impact the future.

Madam Catherine Yeboah, a resident at Adiembra, noted that cultivating the right attitude as citizens would go a long way to help improve upon sanitation in the various communities.

“We can engage in communal activities and any other thing that can make our surroundings clean, but if the same attitude of dumping refuse anyhow continues then we are not ready to preserve nature,” she lamented

Both communities showed up in their numbers to observe the two-day clean-up exercise declared by the President to ensure a clean surroundings ahead of the heavy rains.

Activities like weeding, distilling of drains, hand picking among other activities were done to improve upon the sanitation conditions in both communities.
