Efuanta (W/R), July 11, GNA – Mr Alex Damtey, the Environmental Health Officer for Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality, has applauded the security services in Tarkwa for the excellent performance during the National Sanitation and General cleaning exercise.
He stated that the personnel under the leadership of their commanders turned up in their numbers, worked hard and demonstrated professionalism throughout the exercise, which lasted for eight hours.
Mr Damtey said they concentrated on dredging areas in Efuanta, a suburb of Tarkwa, that were flood prone.
He said they had an excavator working and security personnel also desilted areas where the machines could not reach.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during the exercise, Mr Damtey said apart from the commanders and personnel from the security services, the Presiding Member, and some residents joined the exercise.
However, when GNA visited some areas within Tarkwa shops were closed and residents were actively taking part in the cleaning exercise.
Mr Damtey said authorities directed that security services were to work on Friday July 10, 2026, while the public worked on Saturday July 11, 2026, but some individuals who expressed interest to work on Friday were given the opportunity to assist in their area.
He emphasised that the exercise should not be a nine-day wonder, appealed to residents to continue from where they ended, so it would not always be the assembly that had to intervene.
He further urged residents to continue with the exercise and advised that it should be a regular activity in every community.
Mr Damtey entreated all residents, institutions, and organisations in the 438 communities across the sixteen electoral areas to participate fully in the second day of the cleaning exercise to maintain a healthy environment.
