Brakwa (C/R), Aug 01, GNA-The Chiefs and people of Brakwa in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District of the Central Region have officially launched their Pitanko Festival (Brakwa Fest) with a call on all citizens to honour their obligation for development.
Nana Osa Fori III, who launched the festival, stated that the festival was a moral and spiritual obligation to their ancestors, deities and the land, hence the need for his people to be more united.
He entreated them also to do away with their differences; work to enjoy the peace they had built over the years and the solidarity that came with it.
The event, chaired by Mr Fredrick Amissah, advisor to the Minister of Finance, brought together youth groups, opinion leaders, politicians and officials from the District Assembly led by Madam Olivia Bentil, the Chief Executive (DCE).
This year’s celebration on the theme: “Homecoming for Accelerated Development in Aid of Ultra-modern Community Centre.
During the festival there will be a public lecture on the history of the Brakwa Pitanko Festival and tropical national issues.
There will also be free health screening, Kwesi Dai feast, purification of the black stool and a grand durbar.
According to Nana Fori, the festival had been designed as a strategic homecoming event to mobilise resources with a primary goal to rally financial support from indigenes both home and abroad, corporate bodies and institutions to fund a state-of-the-art community facility to serve the growing population of Brakwa.
“We extend an open invitation to the general public, corporate bodies and cultural enthusiasts to join us in celebrating the festival which will commence in September 2026,” he said.
He added: “It was about time the festival became a wake-up call to draw attention of government and other institutions of challenges of the town and help address them.”
Nana Fori urged his people to consider their huge quality human resource which was underutilised and together look for solutions to make the community grow.
Madam Bentil, the DCE, in her address commended the Chiefs and the entire people of the area and urged them to unite and combine their rich expertise and resource towards the development of area to supplement what government was offering.
She further highlighted projects the Assembly had executed, and ongoing ones like stores, roads, dormitories and toilets at the secondary technical school in the community and also assured to help construct the community centre.
She later on behalf of the Assembly and the Member of Parliament for AOB, donated an amount of GHc8,000.00 as their contribution and assured to support the completion of the project.
Mr Amissah who chaired the event, also donated an amount of GHc10, 000.00, while Mr Eric Taylor, Chief Executive officer of Penyman Foundation presented 200 bags of cement towards the project.
As part of the launch, a proposed plan of the ultra-modern community center and the logo of the festival were unveiled and a total of GHc30,000.00 was raised as seed money towards the project.
