Obuasi (Ash), Aug. 01, GNA – Mr. William Kofi Adzowu, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi East, has presented office furniture to the Municipal Education Directorate to improve the working conditions of teachers and enhance teaching and learning in public schools.
The items comprised 250 teachers’ chairs, 125 tables and 20 swivel chairs for heads of schools and senior staff.
Mr. Adzowu, presenting the items at Obuasi, said the donation was informed by his experience as a former teacher and the need to improve the welfare of teachers.
He observed that while many educational interventions focused on providing desks and learning materials for pupils, little attention was often paid to improving the working environment of teachers.
He said improving teachers’ welfare would contribute to quality education and better learning outcomes.
The MCE announced that the Assembly would construct a new office complex for the Municipal Education Directorate to replace its current wooden structure.
He said other projects earmarked for the education sector included the renovation of classroom blocks at St. Cyril’s Anglican School at Akaporiso, construction of a 40-seater water closet facility for the Independence Cluster of Schools at Brahabebome, the construction of boys’ and girls’ dormitories, a 12-unit classroom block, a science laboratory and entrance fencing at Christ the King Catholic Senior High School.
Mr. Kwabena Owusu Nketia, the Municipal Director of Education, described the donation as the first of its kind in the municipality and expressed gratitude to the Assembly for its continued support to the education sector.
He welcomed the decision to construct a new office complex for the Directorate and said it would improve administrative efficiency.
Mr. Nketia assured the Assembly that the beneficiary schools would ensure proper maintenance of the furniture.
