Cape Coast, Aug 01, GNA – The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has honoured 59 members of staff proceeding on retirement this year at the university’s 2026 Send-off and Long Service Award Ceremony.
The retirees, comprising 11 senior members, 17 senior staff and 31 junior staff, served from 18 to 42 years in various capacities, dedicating their time, energy and skills to the development of the university.
In appreciation of their years of dedicated service, the university presented each retiree with a household item of their choice including mattresses, living room furniture, television sets, refrigerators, and gas cookers.
Mr Kojo Bosomtwe, a foreman of the university who served for 42 years, was given a special recognition as the longest-serving retiree, receiving a table-top fridge from Kofi Essuman Enterprise and a citation in addition to a set of living room furniture from the university.
Professor Denis Worlanyo Aheto, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of UCC, gave the retirees a pat on the shoulder, commending them for their immense contributions to the university’s remarkable growth and achievements over the years.
He said: “Many of you have spent almost your entire working lives serving this university. Some have dedicated more than four decades to this institution.
“Your contributions have helped shape the University of Cape Coast into what it is today, and history will always remember your role.”
Prof Aheto expressed the university’s profound appreciation to the retirees, stating that their years of faithful service and dedication could never be fully repaid.
He said their loyalty had left a lasting mark on the institution and called on the university’s current workforce to uphold the same standards of punctuality, integrity, dedication, loyalty and diligence which remained fundamental to maintaining UCC’s tradition of excellence.
He indicated that UCC remained committed to their welfare even after retirement, noting that they remained eligible to access the university’s healthcare services.
“Again, management is establishing an occupational health safety and wellness centre to improve the wellbeing of both active and retired staff,” he added.
He reiterated that the university was far-advanced in its effort to establish a Provident Fund by close of the year to improve the financial welfare of retirees.
Mr Isaac Adom Konadu, the Director of Human Resource, praised the retirees for their professionalism, discipline, integrity and excellence, urging them to uphold the same standards even after retirement.
“Their legacy will continue to inspire both present and future generations of staff. Retirement ends active service, but it does not end one’s place in the University of Cape Coast family,” he stressed.
Professor Edward Marfo-Yiadom, on behalf of the retirees, thanked the school for recognising and celebrating their efforts and urged his colleagues to continue making their wealth of experience to the institution.
“We came here to serve, and by the grace of God we have completed our assignment. Whatever we have been able to do, we thank God for it.
“Whatever we could not do, time has caught up with us. Let us leave in peace and continue to keep the University of Cape Coast in our hearts wherever we find ourselves,” Prof Marfo-Yiadom stated.
