Westline (W/R), Aug. 1, GNA – Members of the 1976-year group of Takoradi Senior High School (TADISCO) have returned to their alma mater to express gratitude to the institution and relive memories of their school days after five decades.
The group first assembled at the school’s library, which they described as a significant centre of learning that contributed immensely to their academic and professional development.
They later moved to the Visual Arts Department, where they enthusiastically sang the school anthem and other school songs as part of activities marking the reunion.
Following moments of reminiscence, interaction and reflection on the past 50 years, the group presented items worth GH¢18,000 to support teaching and learning in the school.
The items included projectors, a heat presser for design work, a photocopier with an inbuilt scanner, a paper cutter and ceiling fans.
Dr McDonald Nii Bruce, spokesperson for the group, said a strong educational foundation was essential to success in life and expressed appreciation to their teachers for shaping their lives and destinies.
He advised current students to stay away from drug abuse, alcoholism and other immoral behaviours that could negatively affect their future.
Dr Bruce expressed optimism that the donated items would be properly maintained to ensure their longevity and usefulness.
He also announced the group’s intention to support the painting of sections of the school and appealed to other alumni to contribute towards the growth and development of TADISCO.
Madam Rebecca Dennis, an alumna and Headmistress of the school, expressed gratitude to the 1976-year group for their gesture and dedication to the development of the institution.
She urged other old students to emulate the example of the group and support efforts to improve infrastructure and academic delivery in the school.
Madam Amy Fynn-Thompson, Western Chapter President of the TADISCO Old Students Association, expressed concern that although the school had produced many distinguished personalities, only a few alumni responded to calls and initiatives aimed at supporting the school.
She said, “I want to believe that now that we have our own alumna as Headmistress, we will all come on board to build a brighter and better TADISCO.”
The group later toured the school campus and interacted with students and staff.
