Lambussie, (UW/R), July 11, GNA – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency election in the Upper West Region is progressing smoothly with the party’s constituency delegates voting to elect 121 executives to lead the party across the eleven constituencies in the region.
From the Lambussie constituency, Mr Joseph Agrace Wiyorbie reported that voting started smoothly at 0800 hours in that constituency with 721 delegates expected to cast their votes.
As of 0930 hours, when the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the centre, 170 voters had already cast their votes.
Two candidates were contesting the organiser position in the Lambussie Constituency, while the remaining ten positions were contested unopposed.
Mr Maxwell Fudzi Vanscofly, Presiding Officer for the station, said so far, the exercise had been smooth saying, “I expect that the process continues smoothly throughout the day”.
At the Wa Central Constituency, Mr Isaac Alitu, the Chairman of the Elections Committee in the constituency, told the GNA that the election had been smooth so far.
He said 1707 delegates were expected to vote in the constituency to choose eleven out of 28 people contesting to lead the party in the constituency.
As of 1300 hours, a total of 914 people had voted at the two polling stations in the Wa Central Constituency.
Meanwhile, in the Sissala West Constituency, all eleven positions were contested unopposed.
There were police personnel from the Ghana Police Service to maintain peace throughout the exercise.
Reports reaching the GNA in Wa indicated that the exercise had been ongoing smoothly in the remaining eight constituencies.
