Akatsi (V/R), Oct. 31, GNA – The Akatsi South Municipal Assembly has disclosed the procurement of 1,250 school desks and the completion of several classroom blocks in 2027 to improve teaching and learning conditions in basic schools across the Municipality.
The proposed furniture comprises 1,000 dual desks and 250 hexagonal desks, intended to address furniture shortages and provide more conducive learning environments for pupils.
Mr Daniel Dagba, Municipal Chief Executive for Akatsi South, disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interaction on Friday at the Municipal Assembly.
He said the Assembly had also prioritised the completion of a six-unit classroom block at Dagbamatey, a three-unit classroom block at Agbagblakope in Ayitikope and six-unit classroom blocks under the CODA project at Kpodzivi, Suipe and Gornikope.
Other proposed interventions include the completion of two six-unit classroom blocks at Lume-Avete under the Member of Parliament’s support, as well as reroofing a classroom block at Alorkpa.
The planned interventions formed part of the Assembly’s broader infrastructure priorities aimed at expanding access to quality education and improving school facilities.
The proposed procurement, he said, builds on the Assembly’s previous efforts to address furniture shortages in schools.
Mr Dagba explained that in 2022, the Assembly presented 1,000 dual desks and 800 mono desks to basic schools, followed by an additional 250 dual desks in 2023 for onward distribution through the Municipal Education Directorate.
He said other stakeholders have also contributed to addressing the furniture deficit.
In May this year, a philanthropic initiative by Reverend Father Enyonam and friends delivered an initial 500 mono desks under a broader 2,000-desk intervention for distribution to eight beneficiary schools.
A separate donation by Reverend Father Sub-Lieutenant Emmanuel Sebastian Dorgbetor also benefited 13 basic schools in the Municipality.
These interventions highlight the importance of sustained collaboration between the Assembly, educational authorities, religious organisations and other development partners in improving school infrastructure.
Mr Dagba said the Assembly remained committed to improving public service delivery and creating a conducive environment for learning and development across the Municipality.
