Ho (V/R), July 10, GNA – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended its Constituency Executive Committee elections in seven constituencies in the Volta Region pending the determination of petitions filed by aggrieved candidates and matters before the courts.
The decision was contained in a memorandum signed by Mr Danquah Buttey Smith, the Acting National Chairman of the NPP, and addressed to the Party’s Volta Regional Steering Committee,
The memorandum, sighted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the decision was taken by the National Steering Committee at its meeting held on Monday, after considering petitions submitted by contestants in the constituency executive elections in accordance with Regulation 13 of the Rules and Regulations for the Conduct of the Constituency Executive Committee Elections, as well as matters currently before the courts.
The affected constituencies are Hohoe, Ketu North, South Tongu, Akatsi South, Keta, Anlo and North Dayi.
Following its deliberations, the National Steering Committee resolved that the Constituency Executive Committee elections in the seven constituencies stood down until further notice.
“Accordingly, the elections in the aforementioned constituencies are hereby suspended and shall remain stood down until further notice, pending the determination of the matters raised in the respective petitions,” the memorandum stated.
The memorandum directed the Volta Regional Steering Committee to take all necessary steps to implement the decision with immediate effect and ensure full compliance with the directives of the National Steering Committee.
The suspension is expected to remain in force until the petitions and related legal matters are resolved.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway in the remaining constituencies across the Volta Region for the Constituency Executive Committee elections scheduled to be held on Saturday, with party officials finalising arrangements to ensure a smooth and peaceful exercise.
