Anto (W/R), Sept. 15, GNA -The Shama District Assembly has constructed two new school blocks to promote quality and access to education in line with Sustainable Development Goal Four (SDG 4).
The SDG four sought to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all by 2030.
Madam Emelia Arthur, the Member of Parliament for the area, who commissioned the schools and handed them over to the District Director of Education, Mr Raphael Taylor, said a combination of home training and academic knowledge created a well-rounded individual capable of making meaningful impact in society.
She said infrastructure was critical to education delivery, hence, her resolve to work closely with the Assembly to provide structures that ensured access and a conducive learning environment.
The MP said some 502 students had been granted scholarships, while nine new school projects were underway.
“We are also completing the Shama Senior High School dormitory block,” she added.
She urged teachers and other stakeholders to work hard to produce quality human resource for the district and the nation at large.
“My mother and father sacrificed for me. My mother baked and sold bread to support my father to take care of my education. As women, do not only buy cloths and other personal items, but also support your husbands to raise the children,” she said.
Mr Raphael Taylor, the District Director of Education, said nurturing the minds and hands of children required quality teaching and learning facilities.
“We are, therefore, grateful for the support to help improve upon education outcomes in the district,” he said.
Mr. Paul Otis Dentu, the District Chief Executive, said every campaign promise would be systematically executed and urged the communities to keep faith with the Assembly.
Nana Kofi Bekoe III, Chief of Anto, expressed happiness about the project in the community and appealed for good access roads, textbooks, and other educational supplies.
The Anlo Beach community benefited from a three-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities, while Anto received a six-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities.
