Gyedu, (Ahafo), Sept. 15, GNA- Professor Yaw Ofosu-Kusi, the Board Chairman of the Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF), the main driver of the Newmont Ghana Gold Limited (NGGL) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the Ahafo Region.
He indicated that NADeF remained dedicated to facilitating the development and addressing the emerging development needs the local communities within the Newmont Ahafo North mine in the Tano North Municipality and Newmont Ahafo South mine in the Asutifi North District of the region.
Prof. Ofosu-Kusi gave the pledge when the governing board of NADeF inspected the progress of work on the on-construction of some physical infrastructure development in some local communities around the Newmont Ahafo South Mine’s enclave.
In all the board inspected about 26 on-going development projects, spread across Wamahinso, Gyedu, Ntotroso, Kenyasi Number One and Kenyasi Number Two.
The projects comprised health, security, social centres, and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).
They also assessed the level of work on the renovation and livestock farming support projects for some individuals in the area.
Prof. Ofosu-Kusi said the Board was satisfied with the progress of work on the projects and assured the communities that the foundation would do more and enhance their livelihoods.
Some of the project include construction of two-storey six-unit classroom block at the Wamahinso Roman Catholic Primary School and three-storey and 18-unit classroom block for the Gyedu Technical Institute.
Others were the renovation of six-unit primary school block and four-unit primary school block as well as four-unit Kindergarten (KG) block at the Ntotroso Methodist basic School and three-storey dormitory block at the Twereku Ampem SHS at Ntotroso.
The foundation is putting up two-unit KG block with an office at the St Peters Primary School also at Kenyasi Number Two and renovating four-storey lecture block and constructing four-unit pavilion lecture hall at the UMat satellite campus at Kenyasi Number Two.
Others were the landscaping works at Wamahinso social centre and the Wamahinso health center as well as the construction of eight-unit nurses’ quarters for the health.
Works on similar landscaping, grassing, fencing, and pavement were also progressing at the Gyedu polyclinic.
The board also inspected the works on a police station building project at Wamahinso as well as construction of a 16-seater water closet toilet project at Gyedu.
Prof. Ofosu-Kusi explained that the objectives of those projects were to improve security, health, and education growth, and also create employment opportunities for the people.
“The health projects are not only to improve the responsiveness of the health centre for clients and for emergencies, but to provide sustainable accommodation for the health workers and improve their working conditions as well,” he stated.
Prof. Ofosu-Kusi said NADeF remained dedicated to addressing the physical infrastructure challenge in the area and creating a conducive teaching and learning environment for schools to thrive.
