Takoradi, Aug. 22, GNA -Mr. Kwasi Bonso-Otsebo, Acting Director of Vehicle Registration and Inspection Directorate of the DVLA, has called on corporate organizations to educate their staff on the new L.I. 2519 and its requirements from road users.
The new regulations ensure that cameras and smart devices were used to detect traffic offences, and fines issued to offenders and reduce reliance on physical interventions by police officers.
Mr. Bonso-Otsebo at a Staff Safety Training organised by MTN for its staff drivers said it was so imperative that motorists got informed to avoid conflict with the law.
The training formed part of MTN Ghana’s efforts to strengthen safety standards among employees who use vehicles in the course of their duties.
He also said the new measures would strengthen efforts to identify vehicles that might previously have escaped effective inspection, thereby improving roadworthiness and public safety.
ACP Alexander Kwaku Obeng, the Director of Education, Research and Training at the MTTD, noted that the training was necessary because human behaviour remained a major contributor to road crashes.
“About 90 percent of crashes are linked to human errors, including indiscipline, aggression, poor judgement and failure to observe safety measures, he pointed out.
He, therefore, called for regular education and retraining of drivers and staff of organizations operating vehicle fleet to keep them abreast of changing road safety requirements.
Mr. Benjamin Forjour, a staff of MTN said, the training provided an opportunity to refresh and better understand their responsibilities as road users.
Ms. Jessica Wood, a field engineer who travels regularly to remote and densely populated areas, said the training had provided practical guide on speed requirements and other changes introduced under L.I. 2519.
