Techiman (Bono East), July 14, GNA – Sister Christiana Chika Fieabunike, Headmistress of Techiman Mount Carmel Girls Senior High School in the Bono East Region, has appealed to the Government to support the school’s infrastructure development.
She said the school required assistance to complete the Government-funded dormitory and dining hall projects, as well as a Home Economics laboratory project, which had remained abandoned for several years.
Sister Fieabunike, however, commended the Government for awarding contracts for the construction of an administration block, a science laboratory and a semi-detached bungalow.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Techiman, she said the school was marking its 20th anniversary this year and called on stakeholders to support efforts to improve girl-child education and empowerment in the area.
She said the school remained committed to producing responsible, disciplined, well-cultured and God-fearing young women capable of making positive contributions to society.
Established on October 26, 2006, the Headmistress commended the Most Reverend Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Catholic Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese, and the Sisters of the Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus Congregation for their contributions to the growth and development of the school.
She also expressed appreciation to the St Paul’s Catholic Church, Techiman, noting that the school started in a temporary structure with 150 students, five teachers and seven non-teaching staff under the leadership of the late Sister Veronica Adum Fosua.
Sister Fieabunike said the school had grown significantly and currently had a student population of about 1,287, supported by 80 teaching and 30 non-teaching staff.
She said the school’s performance in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) had been impressive.
The Headmistress said with the support of Mr Alex Kyeremeh, a former Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, the school was absorbed into the public school system in 2012.
She said the school had also distinguished itself in the National Science and Maths Quiz, sporting competitions and other co-curricular activities, adding that it was recently adjudged as the best school in the Bono East Regional Public Speaking Competition.
“The school can pride itself as a well-disciplined institution,” she said, while commending with the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) for its continuous support.
Sister Fieabunike said a grand durbar would be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, to climax the school’s 20th anniversary celebration.
