Golokwati (V/R), Sept. 03, GNA – The Afadzato South District Assembly has held its Second Ordinary Meeting of the Fourth Assembly, with a renewed call for stronger oversight to aid rapid development.
It was on the theme: “Resetting Afadzato: The Role of the Assembly Member,” and brought together Assembly Members, Heads of Department and other stakeholders, to deliberate on the development agenda of the district, review ongoing projects and chart a new path for accelerated socio-economic growth.
Mr Manfred Tawiah, the District Chief Executive, said he was encouraged that several projects across electoral areas had been completed and were awaiting commissioning, while others were at advanced stages of completion.
He stated that the Mahama-led NDC administration was not in office to joke but to deliver real development.
Mr Tawiah said records showed that between 2012 and 2024, only 18 projects were commissioned in the district under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
In contrast, under President John Dramani Mahama, the Assembly was on course to commission about 50 projects within two years, he said.
Mr Tawiah commended Assembly Members, management and contractors for their collaborative effort and urged them to sustain the momentum to ensure projects were completed on schedule for the benefit of residents.
In his welcome address, the Presiding Member, Mr Benjamin Kweku Tefe, charged Assembly Members to take their oversight responsibilities seriously.
He urged members to actively monitor all projects and programmes in their electoral areas and report back to the Assembly to ensure value for money, timely completion and quality delivery.
Mr Tefe said effective oversight is key to making sure development reaches the people.
He also highlighted the huge tourism potential of Afadzato South, calling on management of the Assembly to take deliberate steps to develop tourist sites in the district to create jobs for the youth and increase the Internally Generated Fund (IGF) of the Assembly.
The Presiding Member further proposed the establishment of a District Poultry Farm to take advantage of the government’s “Nkoko Nkitinkiti” programme, noting that it will create employment and serve as an additional revenue stream for the Assembly.
The meeting ended with extensive deliberations on development priorities and strategies to reset and accelerate development in Afadzato South.
