Nkroful (W/R), July 3, GNA – Mr Joseph Armah Agyekum, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ellembelle, says 20 per cent of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) has been earmarked for the completion of legacy projects initiated by the previous government.

He said GH¢800,000.00 from the DACF had been committed to the completion of the new District Assembly Office Complex at Nkroful.

Another GH¢600,000.00 has been allocated for the completion of the DCE’s official residence at Nkroful.

Mr Agyekum said GH¢9 million had also been earmarked for the completion of the Esiama New Market Complex. All three projects were initiated under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

The DCE disclosed this during a town hall meeting organised by the Ellembelle District Assembly at Nkroful in the Western Region.

Touching on other development projects, he said the Assembly had utilised its Internally Generated Fund (IGF), as well as the Member of Parliament’s share of the Common Fund, to construct classroom blocks and Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds.

He cited the construction of a six-unit classroom block under the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) at Aiyinasi-Nyamebekyere, an ultra-modern ICT library funded through the MP’s Common Fund, and an ultra-modern two-storey dormitory block for the Asasetre Technical Institute (ASTECH).

Mr Agyekum said work had resumed on the abandoned two-storey administration block at Bonzo Kaku Senior High School (BOKASS), which was initiated by the Member of Parliament, as well as on projects at the Kikam Technical Institute (KIMTECH).

He added that a GETFund project had been approved for the Esiama Secondary Technical Institute (SECTECH) this year, while the Uthman Bin Affan Islamic Secondary School (UBAISS) would benefit from teachers’ quarters to be funded through the Minerals Development Fund (MDF).

On healthcare delivery, the DCE said the Assembly was constructing CHPS compounds with IGF support at Domeabra, New Somanya, Bomoakpole, Fiasolo and Basake, while the CHPS compound at Azulenloanu had been renovated.

He acknowledged the contributions of companies operating in the district, including ADAMUS Resources Limited, Ghana National Gas Company and Eni Ghana, for supporting the construction of school blocks, CHPS compounds and teachers’ quarters.

Mr Agyekum said the Assembly had secured GH¢11 million to commence the district hospital project in the coming months.

He further disclosed that Ellembelle had been selected as one of 11 districts across the country to be elevated to municipal status.
