Accra, June 17, GNA – Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has urged the Black Stars to exhibit courage, unity and discipline as they open their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Panama.
The Vice President delivered the message when she visited the team at their hotel in Toronto on Tuesday, where she conveyed the goodwill of President John Dramani Mahama and assured the players of the nation’s full support.
“The entire nation is behind you. You carry the hopes of 30 million Ghanaians. Go out there and make Ghana proud,” she said.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang encouraged the squad, led by Captain Jordan Ayew and Coach Carlos Queiroz, to approach the game with determination as they compete on the global stage at the BMO Field.
She noted that Ghanaians from all walks of life were united behind the team, praying for their strength, safety and success.
“When you step onto the pitch, remember that you are not alone. You play for Mother Ghana,” she added.
The Vice President was accompanied by Chief Justice Baffoe Bonnie, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Canada, Prof. Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh, and Nana Otuo Siriboe II, representing Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Ghana would face Panama at 1900 hours on Wednesday, June 17, in a Group L encounter of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
