Accra, April 10, GNA-The Republic of Mali has officially withdrawn its recognition of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), citing concerns over peace and security in the sub-region.
The decision was announced in a declaration delivered by Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Abdoulaye Diop, following talks with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita.
According to the declaration, Mali took the decision “after a thorough analysis of the Sahara issue and its impact on sub-regional peace and security.”
Mr. Bourita is currently on an official visit to Bamako on the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
In the same declaration, the Malian Government expressed its support for Morocco’s autonomy plan, describing it as “the only serious and credible basis for resolving the dispute,” and stated that “genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty constitutes the most realistic solution.”
Mali also reaffirmed its support for the efforts of the United Nations, the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, and relevant Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2797 adopted on October 31, 2025.
The declaration further noted that Mali would formally notify regional and international organisations of which it is a member, as well as the diplomatic corps accredited to Bamako, of its decision.
