Accra, Aug. 24, GNA- The Office of the Special Prosecutor (0SP) is to investigate allegations of extortion made by Sammy Gyamfi,  the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) against Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader of Parliament.

“The (OSP) has taken note of public allegations of extortion and related conduct made by the Chief Executive of Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, against the Minority Leader of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo- Markin,” a statement issued on Monday said.

It said the Office also acknowledged a joint petition submitted by two persons, as well as two separate petitions submitted by other persons, in relation to the allegations.

“Given the nature of the allegations, the OSP will assess the case and determine whether it falls within its statutory mandate and whether further investigative action is warranted,” the statement said.

The Minority held a press conference last week

claiming that the GoldBod had made a loss of GHC22 billion, citing a record a recent IMF report on gold purchasing programme by the Bank of Ghana to back its case.

In a sharp rebuttal Sammy Gyamfi refuted the claim and alleged extortion against the Minority Leader.
