Akokora Kwadjom residents appeal for improved drainage system

By Christopher Tetteh

Sunyani, (Bono), Aug 24, GNA-Residents at Akokora Kwadjom, a quarter of Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital, have appealed to the city authorities to improve the poor drainage system in the neighbourhood.

Their appeal followed the extension of a trench developed in the area, threatening the lives of the residents, especially children.

During a visit to the scene, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) noticed that the trench had developed deep and largely opened.

According to the residents, if nothing were immediately, something disastrous could happen as the rain sets in.

They said the drainage system around the trench caved-in when a downpour hit the regional capital on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

However, no casualty was reported.

Meanwhile, personnel of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) together with some Heads of Department and Agencies and the Urban Roads Department have inspected the scene.

In an interview with the GNA, Mrs. Fati Kine-Lam, the Bono Regional Director of the NADMO, cautioned the residents to stay off the trench.

She advised them to take precautionary measures as the NADMO collaborated with authorities of the Sunyani Municipal Assembly to improve the drainage poor system in the area.

Mrs. Kine-Lam urged the people to desist from putting buildings and structures in waterlogged areas and waterways as well to prevent flooding.
