Weta (V/R), April 10, GNA – The Weta Traditional Council, has expressed concern over the increasing circulation of unverified information and commentary on social media involving Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, his company Sesi-Edem Company Limited, and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
It warned that such developments and public discussions undermined due process, damaging reputations prematurely.
In a solidarity statement signed by its President and Paramount Chief, Torgbui Akpo Ahiakpor VI, the Council described Dr Kwamigah-Atokple as a distinguished son of Weta and the Volta Region’s representative on the Council of State, whose contributions to socio-economic development have been significant and widely recognised.
The Council noted that his efforts in enterprise development and community advancement had positively impacted both the local area and the wider region.
While acknowledging the mandate of EOCO and other state institutions, the Council emphasised the need for strict adherence to due process, professionalism, fairness, and the rule of law in handling the matter.
“Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done without prejudice,” the statement stressed.
It called for an immediate halt to what it described as “social media trials” and urged the public to exercise restraint and allow lawful processes to take their course.
The statement urged EOCO to ensure that all actions and procedures are conducted transparently and in a manner that preserves the integrity of the process, while avoiding undue public bias or malice before any formal determination is made.
“As a Traditional Council, we believe individuals who contribute meaningfully to development should be encouraged within a framework of accountability and fairness. Actions that inadvertently discourage such contributions must be carefully avoided,” it added.
The Council reiterated that its position was grounded in the principles of justice, fairness, and the protection of institutional credibility.
It affirmed its unwavering support for Dr Kwamigah-Atokple as a son of the land, while expressing confidence that state authorities would act strictly within the confines of the law.
