Majority Caucus to unveil new leadership amid calls for restructuring

Accra, Jan 23, GNA – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Majority Caucus in Parliament has announced plans to restructure and reveal its new leadership on Thursday.

This decision comes after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus urged the NDC to formally reorganise the leadership of the Majority to enhance legislative proceedings.

The move follows the approval and swearing-in of Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the Majority Leader, as Minister for Finance, and Mr Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Majority Chief Whip, as Minister of Roads and Highways.

Mr Matthew Nyindam, NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpandai, expressed concerns over the current state of the House, likening it to “a sheep without a shepherd.”

“Mr Speaker, we are confused about who is leading government business in the House. They should tell us who is leading us in this House because business must progress,” he said on the Floor of Parliament on Wednesday.

“Mr Speaker, we are here and ready to support them, but we don’t know our leader. We are all concerned. We cannot run this House like that,” the MP added.

In response, Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson reassured the House that the Majority Caucus would designate its front bench the following day.

“Mr Speaker, I am still the leader of the House, and I have not been sworn in as the Minister of Finance [at a point when he had not yet been sworn in] God willing, tomorrow, [Thursday] the NDC Caucus will designate our front bench,” he said.
