Akan NPP First Vice-Chairmanship campaign intensifies

Kadjebi (O/R), July 06, GNA – Campaign activities for the First Vice-Chairmanship position of the Akan Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have intensified as the party’s constituency executive election approaches.

The two aspirants, Mr Francis Agorson, a former District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) Coordinator, and Mr Noah Kwame Wadja, a former Presiding Member of the Kadjebi District Assembly, have stepped up engagements with delegates across the constituency in a bid to secure their support ahead of the polls.

The election, scheduled for Saturday, July 11, will be held at the Rashid Bawa Assembly Hall of the Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School (KASEC), where 1,012 delegates are expected to elect constituency executives.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after campaign stops at Tsortorme, Todome, Dodi-Papase, Asato and other farming communities in the Kadjebi District, Mr Agorson said his long-standing service to the party had equipped him with the requisite experience to serve effectively as First Vice-Chairman.

He said he had served the party in various capacities, including Polling Station Chairman and Electoral Area Coordinator, adding that those roles had given him an in-depth understanding of the party’s structures, operations and grassroots mobilisation.

Mr Agorson pledged to work closely with the Constituency Chairman and other executives to strengthen party unity, enhance grassroots participation and position the party for victory in future elections.

“I have served the party faithfully over the years and understand the challenges confronting the constituency. If given the mandate, I will work tirelessly with all stakeholders to build a stronger and more united party,” he said.

Mr Agorson, who contested the same position in 2022 and narrowly lost to the incumbent First Vice-Chairman, Madam Abena Okyerewaa Okyere, said he would work closely with constituency executives, polling station officers and other party groupings to rebuild the confidence of party faithful and attract more floating voters to the NPP.

In a separate interview with the GNA, Mr Wadja said his experience in local governance and education administration made him the most suitable candidate for the position.

He said his tenure as Presiding Member of the Kadjebi District Assembly and his previous role as a School Improvement Support Officer (SISO) had equipped him with the leadership, organisational and conflict-resolution skills to support the Constituency Chairman and the executive body.

“The First Vice-Chairman serves as the first line of support to the Chairman. I have the experience and commitment to provide that support and help reposition the party while we are in opposition,” he said.

Mr Wadja appealed to delegates to vote for competence, experience and unity, stressing that the NPP needed dedicated leaders capable of rebuilding the party at the constituency level ahead of the 2028 general election.

Political observers in the constituency said the contest had generated considerable interest among party supporters, with both aspirants intensifying community visits and delegate engagements in the final days leading to the election.

The First Vice-Chairmanship race is expected to be one of the most keenly contested positions in the Akan Constituency executive election.
