Sunyani (Bono), July 6, GNA – The police cadet corps of the St Thomas Aquinas Senior High School (SHS) was adjudged the overall winner of the 2026 National Cadet Drill and Band competition.
From the prize, they received a mowing machine and an undisclosed sum of money.
Cadet corps from 12 other SHSs also participated in the event held at the Ghana National Fire Service Training school in Accra.
The St Roses SHS Akwatia Air Force cadet corps placed second, with the Obiri Yeboah SHS Immigration cadet corps placing third position.
In the band category, southern sector powerhouse Bishop Herman Senior High School Air Force cadet corps picked the national championship.
About 13 cadet corps from the SHSs representing the Northern, Central and Southern sectors of the country participated.
The Bishop Herman SHS also received a mowing machine and an undisclosed sum of money with the St Roses SHS and Obiri Yeboah SHS taking home a flat screen television and table top refrigerator respectively, and undisclosed amount.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Sunyani on the outcome of the competition, Mr Emmanuel Kwaw Erskine, the reviewing officer and sponsor of the competition, commended the SHSs for their resilience and discipline.
He noted that: “Ture leadership is tested not in moments of comfort but in times of challenge,” and urged cadets to uphold the values of discipline, commitment and service to the nation.
Mr Erskine said that commitment to leadership and community development had inspired him to continue to support and empower young people, as well as promoting discipline, leadership and national service.
He pledged his dedication to support programmes that build a responsible and disciplined generation, capable of contributing to holistic national development.
