Teachers, Residents Appeal for Construction of Afife-Tsiyinu Road

Tsiyinu (V/R), June 15, GNA – Teachers, students and residents of Tsiyinu in the Ketu North Municipality have appealed to the government and the Municipal Assembly to expedite construction of the Afife-Tsiyinu road, which becomes impassable during the rainy season.

The road, which links Tsiyinu to the Afife township, passes through a waterlogged area that floods whenever it rains, making movement difficult for residents, teachers and traders who rely on the route for their daily activities.

Residents said the poor condition of the road has adversely affected access to education, transportation, and economic activities in the area.

Ms Ethel Fiawornu, a teacher at Tsiyinu Basic School who resides in Afife, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that commuting to school during the rainy season had become a major challenge.

She explained that commercial motorbike operators were often reluctant to use the road because of the risks involved.

“Whenever it rains, it becomes very difficult to get to school. Some motorbike riders refuse to use the road because it is dangerous, and those who agree to transport us charge almost three times the normal fare,” she said.

Madam Vicentia Agbenuza, a resident of Tsiyinu and a teacher, said the situation worsened on market days when many residents travelled to Afife to conduct business.

She noted that the flooding disrupted transportation and negatively affected livelihoods, particularly those of traders and farmers.

The residents appealed to the Ketu North Municipal Assembly and other relevant authorities to urgently rehabilitate the road to ease transportation challenges and improve access to education, healthcare and economic activities.

They expressed hope that prompt intervention would help address the perennial flooding problem and improve living conditions in the community.
