NCCE sensitises Sefwi -Wiawso SHS students on dangers of corruption

By Alex Gyawu Asante

Sefwi -Wiawso,  June 9, GNA – The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has engaged students of Sefwi Wiawso Senior High School and Wiawso Secondary Technical School on the causes, effects, and consequences of corruption.

The programme, held on the campus of Sefwi Wiawso Senior High School, formed part of NCCE’s nationwide anti-corruption campaign in senior high schools.

Mr. Laud Swanzy, Municipal Director of NCCE for Wiawso Municipal in the Western North Region, said corruption extends beyond politicians and money.

He explained that it involved accountability, integrity, and the protection of public resources.

Mr. Swanzy identified “examination malpractice, “goro” for grades, favouritism in prefect elections, and payment of bribes for services as forms of corruption that begin at a young age.”

“Citizens have a responsibility to safeguard public resources and ensure state property is protected. Fighting corruption today is an investment in the future of our nation, and particularly the future of our young ones,” he said.

He warned that if corruption was not addressed in schools, students would grow up to confront it in offices and communities.

Mr. Patrick Kwan, Headmaster of Sefwi Wiawso Senior High School, commended NCCE for the education.

He urged the students to become anti-corruption campaigners and whistle-blowers and assured them of protection under the law.
