Luhuor-Ada, July 25, GNA-The Ada West District Office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has distributed relief items to 149 residents affected by recent flooding in Luhuor in the Ada West District.
The intervention is intended to provide temporary relief to families who suffered losses following the floods and support them as they recover from the disaster.
The relief items, provided through the support of President John Dramani Mahama and the Ada West District NADMO, included 25-kilogramme bags of rice, cooking oil, mosquito nets, blankets and mattresses.
Mr. Eric Doku Abayateye, Ada West District Director of NADMO, said although the items could not fully compensate victims for the losses they had suffered, they would help address some of their immediate needs.
He assured residents that NADMO remained committed to supporting disaster victims and working with other stakeholders to improve disaster response and preparedness in the district.
Madam Abigail Sebbie, Deputy Director of NADMO for Ada West, explained that although many residents were impacted by the floods, only 149 qualified for assistance after a one-week registration exercise conducted to identify and verify affected persons.
According to her, the registration process was necessary to ensure that the relief items reached genuine victims of the disaster.
Mr Jonathan Tetteh Asamanyua, Assembly member for the area, said residents were given one week to register for the support, but only 149 affected persons completed the registration process within the stipulated period.
He commended NADMO for the intervention and urged residents to cooperate with authorities during future emergency response exercises to ensure that assistance reached all eligible victims.
Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Ada West District NADMO for their support, describing it as timely and helpful.
They, however, appealed for additional assistance, saying the items received were insufficient to address the challenges they continued to face after losing their homes and personal belongings to the floods.
