Kumasi, July 25, GNA – The Department of Social Services (DSS) of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has reiterated its commitment to promoting the full participation of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in all aspects of church life through the implementation of its disability policy.

Ms Jedidiah Abanga, an official of the DSS, said the policy was designed to ensure that persons with disabilities were fully represented and actively involved in the activities and decision-making processes of the church.

She said the Presbyterian Church had established a National Committee on Disability under its Department of Church Life and Nurture to champion disability inclusion and ensure that the interests of persons with disabilities were adequately represented.

Ms Abanga made the remarks at a seminar organised by the Department of Church Life and Nurture for members of the church’s disability committee in Kumasi.

She stressed the need for all agents of the church to be trained on disability-related issues to facilitate the effective implementation of the policy and promote an inclusive environment for all members.

Participants at the seminar, drawn from the various presbyteries of the church, held discussions on disability-related issues and strategies for strengthening disability inclusion within the church.

The seminar also sought to ensure that disability inclusion was integrated at all levels of church life as part of efforts to build a disability-friendly church and promote equal opportunities for persons with disabilities.
