Tema, July 25, GNA — The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) has launched the Engineering in Africa Conference (EiAC) 2026.
The conference aims to bring together engineers, policymakers, industry leaders, investors, innovators, academic institutions and development partners to discuss sustainable solutions to Africa’s development challenges.
The three-day conference is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 12, 2026.
The conference seeks to cultivate engineers and innovators who will apply systems thinking to develop sustainable, home-grown solutions for Ghana and the rest of Africa, while positioning Ghana as a leading hub for engineering, innovation and industrial development on the continent.
Mr Abdulai Imoro, the Executive Director of the NSBE, said the idea for the conference emerged during the society’s 25th anniversary celebrations in 2024.
Mr Imoro explained that although NSBE is a global organisation, its African chapter was first established in Ghana in 1998, making it appropriate for the country to host a continental engineering platform.
“We wanted to do something revolutionary to mark our 25th anniversary, so we conceived the Engineering in Africa Conference to bring together professionals, organisations and partners from across Africa and beyond to shape the continent’s future,” he said.
He said the conference would serve as a platform for young professionals, innovators and experts from diverse disciplines to develop practical solutions to Africa’s infrastructure, industrialisation and technological challenges.
He noted that although the conference was engineering-focused, it would also welcome professionals from business, the arts and other sectors, stressing that sustainable development required multidisciplinary collaboration.
“Engineers develop ideas and technologies, but it takes entrepreneurs, policymakers, designers and other professionals to transform those ideas into products and services that improve lives,” he said.
Mr Kweku Fleming, an adviser to the NSBE, said the conference would provide an opportunity for African professionals to benefit from the society’s extensive global network of engineers, scientists and technology experts.
He expressed confidence that the initiative would strengthen collaboration across the continent and contribute to Africa’s scientific and technological advancement.
