Bugubelle, (UW/R), June 24, GNA – The Ghana Petroleum Management System (GPMS) has handed over a classroom block project with ancillary facilities at Bugubelle in the Sissala East Municipality to a contractor.
The project, which was expected to be completed within six months, comprised ten fully furnished classrooms, an office, washrooms, and a borehole to enhance teaching and learning in the community.
Mr Issah Mohammed Bataglia, the Member of Parliament for the Sissala East Constituency, facilitated the project for the community as part of his efforts to improve education in the constituency.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, Mr Lewil Charles, the Sissala East Municipal Director of Education, observed that unlike other schools with infrastructure and fewer learners, the school at Bugubelle had the highest enrollment of 827 pupils in the municipality.
He, therefore, said the intervention by the GPMS was timely as limited classrooms at the community had led to overcrowding, which was affecting quality teaching and learning in the school.
He expressed appreciation to GPMS and the MP for facilitating the project, and noted that it would help address classroom challenges in the area and significantly improve the learning environment for the pupils.
Mr Adamu Benin Yakubu, the Sissala East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), commended the GPMS for its intervention and praised the MP for his commitment to educational development in the municipality.
He said the project demonstrated the importance of collaboration between public institutions and development partners in improving social infrastructure.
Mr Yakubu urged the contractor to employ labour from the community, deliver quality work and ensure completion of the project on schedule.
The MCE also appealed to other development partners to extend their interventions to the Sissala East Municipality to help improve the livelihoods of the people in the area.
On his part, Mr Bataglia explained that education remained a top priority in his development agenda, which informed the choice of Bugubelle as a beneficiary community for the project due to its pressing educational infrastructure needs.
He expressed gratitude to the management of the GPMS for responding positively to the request and investing in the future of children in the constituency.
Mr Godwin Duncan Alikor, the General Manager of GPMS, stated that their mission in Bugubelle was inspired by the desire to support children, who he described as the future leaders of the country.
He emphasised that the GPMS was committed to its corporate social responsibility and reiterated the company’s dedication to supporting communities through impactful educational projects.
Delivering the keynote address, Mr Nayon Bilijo, the Board Chairman of the Tema Oil Refinery, underscored the importance of education as a catalyst for national development.
He encouraged the people of Bugubelle to take ownership of the project and ensure that it would be properly maintained upon completion.
The project would bring relief to pupils, teachers, and residents of Bugubelle and surrounding communities.
