Sogakope (V/R), June 06, GNA – Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, has led a stakeholder dialogue between the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Concerned Citizens of Sogakope to address concerns relating to electricity supply, customer billing and service delivery in the South Tongu District.
The two-day engagement brought together the leadership of the Concerned Citizens of Sogakope, ECG officials and other key stakeholders to discuss challenges affecting power distribution and customer satisfaction in the area.
The meeting, chaired by the Regional Minister, provided a platform for the ECG to explain operational challenges affecting electricity supply and outline measures being implemented by the Company and Government to improve power reliability and stability across the region.
Members of the Concerned Citizens of Sogakope raised concerns over what they described as abnormal and estimated electricity bills, as well as instances where customers whose services had been disconnected continued to receive bills.
They called on the ECG to take urgent steps to address the concerns and restore public confidence in the Company’s operations.
Responding to the issues, Mrs Eunice Tweneboah-Kodua, the Volta Regional Public Relations Officer of ECG, and Mr Solomon Adjiku, Volta Regional Commercial Manager, who addressed participants on separate days of the engagement, explained factors that could contribute to billing discrepancies.
The officials also educated participants on the Company’s billing systems, meter-reading processes and the available channels through which customers could lodge complaints and seek redress.
They assured customers that all genuine billing concerns would be thoroughly investigated and resolved.
The ECG further announced plans to intensify customer education and engagement activities through customer clinics and outreach programmes aimed at bringing its services closer to consumers and improving communication with customers.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Gunu briefed participants on ongoing government interventions within the energy sector aimed at enhancing electricity reliability, improving service delivery and strengthening power infrastructure in the Volta Region.
He urged residents and stakeholders to maintain open dialogue with the ECG and work collaboratively towards finding sustainable solutions to the challenges confronting the sector.
“The government remains committed to strengthening the power sector and ensuring that citizens receive reliable and efficient electricity services. Constructive engagement between ECG and customers is critical to achieving this objective,” he said.
Mr Gunu commended both the ECG and the Concerned Citizens of Sogakope for embracing dialogue as a means of resolving concerns and promoting mutual understanding.
The engagement formed part of the ECG’s broader commitment to fostering stronger relationships with customers through transparency, accountability and responsive service delivery.
Present at the meeting were Madam Victoria Dzeklu, the South Tongu District Chief Executive; ACP Emmanuel Ofori, South Tongu Divisional Police Commander; representatives of the District Security Council (DISEC); members of ECG’s Regional and District Management Teams led by Mr Godfred Awuku, the Volta Regional Engineer; selected Assembly Members and the leadership of the Concerned Citizens of Sogakope.
