Accra, June 9, GNA- Mr Mohammed Hassan Kai Samba, the High Commissioner of Sierra Leone to Ghana, has advised international students of the Accra Technical University (ATU) to strive for excellence in their pursuit of higher education.

He urged them to demonstrate integrity and serve as positive ambassadors of their respective countries.

The High Commissioner said this on Tuesday at a flag-raising ceremony to celebrate Accra Technical University International Students Week.

The ceremony brought together ambassadors and high commissioners from the seven African countries whose students were studying in the institution.

Mr Samba said the ceremony underscored the importance of unity in diversity by recognising international students in the institution.

“Choosing to study outside your country requires courage, adaptability and tenacity to succeed in life,” he said.

“You gain new perspectives and develop lifelong friendships with your peers.”

Mr Samba said Cote d’Ivoire and the relations with Ghana and other African countries were well cherished because of the cooperation and mutual respect.

“The ceremony symbolises regional integration, peace and stability and sustainable development in West Africa,” he said.

He encouraged the students to be united and serve as a living bridge among themselves, address challenges and foster sustained relationship to achieve their goals.

Mr Samba commended Ghana for providing a welcoming environment to the students to pursue their future aspirations.

Professor Amevi Acakpovi, the Vice-Chancellor of ATU, said the event celebrated unity in diversity, friendship among nations and the spirit of global citizens that defined modern higher education.

“These students have become an integral part of our academic community, enriching our classrooms with diverse perspectives and strengthening the multicultural environment that prepares all our students to thrive in a globalised world,” he noted.

The University, he said, would continue to strengthen and expand its international partnerships across Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America to promote student and staff exchanges.

Ms Faustina Kilian Ganaa, the Director of Public Affairs, said the presence of the diplomatic community underscored the importance of collaboration in advancing educational and cultural ties.

Mr Abdulai Darboe, President of ATU International Students Association, commended the university for creating the conducive environment for them to learn and succeed in their academic lives.

The University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the African Higher School of Information and Communication Technologies in Cote d’Ivoire to advance ICT education and training between the two countries.

The agreement is also to facilitate internship opportunities between the two and promote students and staff exchanges through research and innovation.
