Adidome (V/R), June 11, GNA – Mr Guggisberg Fiagbenu, the Assembly Member of the Adidome Central Electoral Area in the Central Tongu District, has appealed to Mr Dodzi Addison Mornyuie, the District Chief Executive (DCE) to take immediate steps to repair and restore the district’s ambulance.
The ambulance has remained out of commission for months following a mechanical breakdown.
In a formal petition to the DCE, copied to Mr Alexander Roosevelt Hotordze, the Member of Parliament for the Central Tongu Constituency, and sighted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the Assembly Member described the prolonged unavailability of the ambulance as a critical challenge to emergency healthcare delivery within the district.
He stated that the ambulance, with registration number GV 20-20, broke down on March 31, 2026, and had since been unable to provide essential emergency medical services to residents.
According to him, the situation has disrupted emergency response operations, particularly in the transportation of critically ill patients, maternal emergencies and referrals to regional health facilities.
Mr Fiagbenu expressed concern that the absence of the ambulance was exposing residents, especially those in remote communities, to heightened health risks and avoidable delays in accessing life-saving medical care.
“Rapid access to emergency medical services is critical to saving lives, and the current situation leaves many residents vulnerable,” he noted.
The Assembly Member warned that the continued state of disrepair of the ambulance could undermine efforts to improve healthcare delivery and emergency response in the district if urgent intervention was not undertaken.
He therefore called on the District Assembly to expedite the assessment and repair of the vehicle to restore it to active service and safeguard the health and wellbeing of residents.
Mr Fiagbenu further pledged his support and cooperation in efforts aimed at finding a swift and sustainable solution to the challenge.
The appeal comes amid growing concerns among residents over emergency healthcare accessibility, with stakeholders urging authorities to prioritise the restoration of the ambulance to strengthen the district’s emergency response capacity.
