Bolgatanga, Aug. 15, GNA – Mr Anthony Namoo, the outgoing Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed confidence that the party will rebound strongly and improve its electoral fortunes ahead of the 2028 General Election.
He said the new regional executives to be elected would work collectively to develop strategies aimed at repositioning the party and increasing its contribution to the national vote.
Mr Namoo made the remarks in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during the NPP Upper East Regional Executive Election being held at the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs in Bolgatanga.
“We are looking at the fact that together with the new executives that will be elected, we will strategise and do better, so that in 2028, we contribute a significant share to the national vote,” he said.
Mr Namoo, who has served as Regional Chairman for the past eight years, said he had decided not to seek re-election and would instead continue serving the party in another capacity.
He noted that since 2002, no NPP Regional Chairman in the Upper East region had served for more than four years, adding that he was grateful for the opportunity to have led the party through two consecutive terms.
“God has graciously given me eight years. It is coming to an end again, so I will move on to serve the party in another capacity,” he said.
Mr Namoo, who also chaired the Regional Election Committee, said 334 delegates were expected to participate in the election to choose new regional executives.
He explained that nine of the 11 executive positions were being contested, while candidates for the positions of Regional Youth Organiser and Second Vice Chairman were unopposed.
The contested positions include Regional Chairman, First Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Organiser, Communications Officer, Women’s Organiser, Assistant Secretary and Nasara Coordinator.
Mr Namoo urged delegates to adhere strictly to the rules governing the election to ensure a peaceful, transparent and credible process.
He particularly cautioned delegates against taking photographs of their ballot papers, stressing that voting was by secret ballot.
“Your vote is your security. No snapping of pictures of how you voted,” he said.
Mr Namoo expressed optimism that the election would be conducted peacefully and that candidates chosen by most delegates would emerge to lead the party in the region.
