Techiman, (Bono East), August 15, GNA- Mr Christian Addai-Manu, the Bono East Regional Director of the Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority (LUSPA) has called for stakeholder support to regulate the use of lands in the region.
He said the LUSPA was preparing a Regional Spatial Development Framework that would develop plans and strategies to ensure judicious utilization of land and therefore required the support of traditional authorities and relevant stakeholders.
As the embodiment of the people and custodian of lands, Mr Addai-Manu explained that the Authority required the collaboration of chiefs and queens to design the framework and stringent measures to regulate land use in the region.
He was speaking at a day’s stakeholders meeting at Techiman, organised by the LUSPA and aimed at sensitizing the participants on the Framework, attended by chiefs and queens as well as Heads of Departments and Agencies in the region.
Mr Addai-Manu explained that the Land Use and Spatial Planning Act 2016 (Act 925), established the LUSPA as a regulatory body to replace the former Town and Country Planning Department.
The LUSPA operates at the National and Regional as well as the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly (MMDAs) levels and constituted by the Physical Planning Department of the MMDAs.
Mr Addai-Manu said the Act 925 specified the creation of the Regional Spatial Planning Committees and District Spatial Planning Committees to determine land use.
He said that the committees outlined strategies for achieving defined social, economic, and environmental policies as well as set strategic visions for spatial development.
Mr Francis Owusu Antwi, the Bono East Regional Minister, expressed concern about chieftaincy disputes, land litigations and activities of Fulani nomads which threatened the prevailing peace and security of the region.
He appealed to the traditional authorities in the region to endeavour to resolve chieftaincy disputes and land litigations amicably for sustained peace.
Mr Antwi said that the prevailing peace of the region ought to be strengthened to facilitate rapid socio-economic development.
