Dzodze (V/R), June 22, GNA – Mr Eric Edem Agbana, Member of Parliament for Ketu North, has intensified efforts to monitor the worsening flood situation in parts of the municipality, visiting affected communities, including Dzodze Bagome and Taso Lane, to assess the extent of damage and offer support to victims.
The visit follows heavy rains that inundated several homes and disrupted the livelihoods of residents, leaving many families displaced and struggling to salvage their belongings.
Mr Agbana described the devastation as extensive, noting that numerous households had suffered significant losses as floodwaters submerged properties and damaged personal belongings.
“The floods have hit our communities hard, and many families are going through a very difficult period. The extent of the devastation is enormous and requires immediate attention,” he said.
He indicated that although the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) had mobilised resources to respond to the disaster, there was an urgent need for additional interventions to alleviate the plight of affected residents.
As part of efforts to provide immediate relief, Mr Agbana made a personal donation of food items, toiletries and cash to support some of the hardest-hit households.
He said the Ketu North Municipal Directorate of NADMO would coordinate the distribution process to ensure that the items reached the intended beneficiaries.
Mr Agbana assured residents of his continued commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to secure additional support for affected communities.
“We will continue to stand with affected families and work tirelessly to ensure they receive the support they need during this difficult period,” he said.
He called for a coordinated response involving government institutions, development partners, corporate organisations and individuals to support recovery efforts in the affected communities.
Residents who spoke to the Ghana News Agency expressed appreciation for the intervention and appealed for long-term measures to address recurring flooding in vulnerable areas.
They urged authorities to improve drainage systems, desilt existing drains and invest in flood mitigation infrastructure to minimise the impact of future occurrences.
The Ketu North Municipal Directorate of NADMO is expected to conduct a comprehensive assessment to determine the full extent of the damage and provide further assistance to affected households.
