Taviefe (V/R), Sept. 3, GNA – Mr Richmond Edem Kofi Kpotosu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho Central, has organised a free breast and cervical cancer screening exercise for women in the constituency.
The exercise, which commenced on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the Taviefe-Avenya and Deme Clinics, attracted more than 200 women who participated in the preventive healthcare programme.
Held under the theme, “Healthy Woman, Strong Community,” with the sub-theme, “Screen Today, Secure Tomorrow,” the exercise sought to promote early detection and prevention of breast and cervical cancers among women.
Mr Kpotosu, in an interview, expressed appreciation to the women, particularly residents of Taviefe-Avenya and Deme, for their impressive turnout and commitment to safeguarding their health.
He said the strong participation demonstrated the collective resolve of residents to protect the health and wellbeing of mothers, wives, sisters and daughters in the constituency.
The MP said the initiative was anchored on his conviction that women should have access to preventive healthcare and early screening to help reduce deaths associated with preventable cancers.
“Early detection saves lives, and screening remains a swift, safe and strictly confidential exercise,” he said.
Madam Emmanuella Kokoroko, a nurse at the Deme facility, said more than 200 women were screened during the exercise and expressed appreciation to the MP for the initiative.
She advised women not to overlook even the smallest symptoms but to report early to health facilities for prompt assessment and treatment.
Mr Kpotosu commended health professionals and staff of the Taviefe-Deme and Avenya Clinics, his constituency team, volunteers and other stakeholders for their contributions towards the success of the exercise.
He said, as MP, he remained committed to promoting accessible and preventive healthcare services for residents, particularly women.
He said a healthy woman was essential to building strong families and prosperous communities and urged women to make regular health screening an important part of their healthcare routine.
