Over 18,000 candidates from 464 schools write BECE in Atwima enclave

Nyinahin (Ash), May 4, GNA – A total of 18,326 candidates from 464 public and private schools are to sitting for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) across four Atwima political districts in the Ashanti Region. 

Data compiled by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) from Public Relations and Examination Officers of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the districts showed that Atwima Kwanwoma recorded the highest number of candidates, with 7,564 made up of 3,609 boys and 3,955 girls from 65 public and 82 private schools. 

The candidates in Atwima Kwanwoma are expected to write the examination at 21 centres. 

Atwima Nwabiagya North District follows 4,327 candidates from 44 public and 47 private schools, who will write at 17 centres. 

Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality recorded 3,366 candidates, comprising 1,647 boys and 1,719 girls from 45 public and 58 private schools, to sit the examination at 18 centres. 

Atwima Mponua District presented 3,069 candidates, made up of 1,555 boys and 1,514 girls from 110 public and 13 private schools, who will write at 13 centres. 

At Nyinahin, Ms. Ama Adwubi Asafu-Adjaye, District Director of Education, encouraged candidates to eschew fear and approach the examination with confidence. 

She advised them to remain focused, avoid distractions, and rely on the knowledge and preparation provided by their teachers. 

“Stay confident, stay focused, believe in your studies, remain calm, and strive to excel,” she said. 

She also urged candidates to avoid last-minute influences and maintain discipline throughout the examination period. 

The BECE, which marks the first external examination for final-year junior high school students, is being conducted simultaneously across the country under the supervision of the Ghana Education Service and the West African Examinations Council.
