Akatsi (V/R), June 20, GNA – The Akatsi North District Assembly has commissioned 13 mechanised boreholes in selected communities and institutions across the district to improve access to potable water.
The project, according to authorities, is expected to address longstanding water challenges and significantly enhance access to safe drinking water for residents.
Mr Bless Kodjo Katamani, the Akatsi North District Chief Executive (DCE), speaking during the commissioning ceremonies, expressed delight at the successful completion of the projects.
He said the intervention would improve living conditions and bring relief to communities that had grappled with perennial water shortages.
Mr Katamani noted that the provision of the water facilities would also promote good sanitation and hygiene practices, thereby enhancing public health outcomes across the district.
The three-day commissioning exercise, led by the DCE and Mr Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, began on Wednesday, June 17, and ended on Friday, June 19.
The newly commissioned boreholes are located at Hanyiwe, Kpohe, Kpeduhoe, Ave Senior High School, Ave Technical Institute, Metsrikasa, Atsata-Bame, Korve, Agormor-Agado, Avega, Avevoe, among other beneficiary communities.

Mr Katamani urged residents to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their proper maintenance to guarantee sustainability and continuous service delivery.
The completion and handover of the projects mark a major milestone in the district’s efforts to eliminate decades of water shortages affecting the beneficiary communities.
The ceremonies attracted residents and key stakeholders and were characterised by drumming, singing, and dancing, as people expressed appreciation to the government and the District Assembly for addressing their long-standing water needs.
Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) Committees were also inaugurated in the beneficiary communities to oversee the proper use and maintenance of the facilities.
