Obuasi, May 8, GNA – Students of Christ the King Senior High School in Obuasi have been sensitised on the dangers of corruption and the importance of upholding the rule of law as part of efforts to promote integrity and responsible citizenship among the youth.
The sensitisation programme was organised by the Obuasi East Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) under its project on “Strengthening the Rule of Law and the Fight Against Corruption.”
The engagement focused on ethical leadership, responsible civic conduct, the Whistle Blowers Act, understanding the rule of law and the effects of corruption on national development.
Mrs. Gertrude Coffie, Municipal Director of the Legal Aid Commission, who served as a resource person, delivered a presentation on the Whistle Blowers Act and educated the students on the importance of exposing wrongdoing in society.
She explained the legal protections available to individuals who reported corruption and other unlawful acts and encouraged the students to develop the confidence to speak against unethical behaviour.
According to her, corruption remained a major challenge to national development and required the collective efforts of citizens to combat it effectively.
Ms. Jennifer Ofori, the Municipal Director of NCCE, also led discussions on ethical leadership, civic responsibility, the rule of law, and the negative impact of corruption on society.
She urged the students to uphold honesty, discipline, and accountability in their daily activities, stressing that young people had a critical role in promoting good governance and national development.
“Students must stand for integrity and resist corruption,” Ms. Ofori emphasised.
She encouraged the students to become role models and advocates of positive change in their schools and communities.
The engagement was highly interactive, with students actively participating through questions and contributions on corruption, leadership, and civic responsibility.
The engagement formed part of the Participation, Accountability and Integrity for a Resilient Democracy (PAIReD) Programme with funding from the European Union (EU) and GIZ.
