Adaklu Helekpe (V/R), Sept. 10, GNA – Ghanaians have been advised to refrain from self-medication for suspected malaria cases.
They are rather to access health facilities for proper testing and treatment of the disease.
Mr Samuel Yao Atidzah, the Executive Director of the GOSANET Foundation, gave the advice at a Malaria Prevention and Elimination Outreach Programme at Adaklu Waya in the Adaklu District of the Volta Region, on Wednesday.
The GOSANET Foundation, in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service and in partnership with the National Malaria Elimination Programme organised the programme to promote malaria prevention and elimination.
“Seek early testing and treatment when you experience fever or suspected malaria symptoms,” Mr Atidzah stated.
He called also on pregnant women to regularly attend ante-natal care and take the recommended malaria preventive medications religiously.
“Complete the prescribed malaria drugs as prescribed7 by a trained health professional,” he advised.
The Executive Director appealed to the people to keep their surroundings clean and also always sleep under insecticide-treated mosquito nets.
He stated that everyone has a role in malaria prevention and elimination.
“Malaria prevention starts with us, let us act today to protect our families and communities.
Mr Atidzah indicated that social behaviour change and communication helped improve malaria prevention by shifting community habits, increased insecticide-treated mosquito nets use, and encouraged early treatment.
